Free Online OCR — Image to Text

zenlyta’s Extract Text tool uses Tesseract.js — the leading open-source OCR engine — to convert photos, screenshots, scanned documents, and handwritten notes into editable text directly in your browser. No server upload, no account, and no file size limits beyond your device memory.

Perfect for digitizing receipts, extracting quotes from images, converting screenshots to text, or making scanned PDFs searchable after converting them to images.

How to Extract Text from an Image

  1. Upload a JPG, PNG, WebP, GIF, or BMP image containing text.
  2. Select the language(s) present in the image (e.g., English, Indonesian, or both).
  3. Click Extract Text and wait for OCR to complete — progress is shown live.
  4. Copy the result, select all, or download as a .txt file.

Tips for Best OCR Accuracy

For highest accuracy, use high-resolution images with good contrast, avoid blur or heavy shadows, crop tightly around the text, and choose the correct language. Printed text works best; handwriting accuracy varies. If results are poor, try converting your image to black & white first to increase contrast.

Privacy-First OCR Processing

zenlyta is designed around a client-side, privacy-first architecture. Your image is processed locally in your browser using WebAssembly — it is not uploaded to a zenlyta file-processing server. Language data is fetched once from the Tesseract CDN and cached by your browser.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does image to text extraction work?

It uses Tesseract.js, a WebAssembly port of the Tesseract OCR engine. It analyzes shapes in your image and converts them to digital text — all locally in your browser.

Are my images uploaded to a server?

No. OCR happens locally via WebAssembly. Your image never leaves your device. Only language data is fetched from the CDN on first use.

What languages are supported?

English, Indonesian, Spanish, French, German, Japanese, Chinese Simplified, Arabic, Portuguese, Russian, Korean and more. Choose English+Indonesian for mixed documents.

Why is the first extraction slow?

The first run downloads the OCR language data (2–10 MB) and initializes the engine. Subsequent extractions are much faster thanks to browser caching.

Do I need an account?

No account is required. The tool works on desktop and mobile browsers for free.
